About Us

The MSEB Holding Company Limited is a Government of Maharashtra owned Company incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 after trifurcation of the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board (“MSEB”).  The primary object of the Company is to invest in companies engaged in the field of generation, transmission, distribution and trading of electricity or any or all of these activities.

The Company is the Holding Company of its Wholly-owned Subsidiaries viz. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited working in the energy sector in the state of Maharashtra.   

The Company’s predecessor, MSEB was formed on June 20, 1960 under section 5 of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948.  In 1998 it was the second largest electricity generating utility in India after National Thermal Power Corporation.

The MSEB’s predecessor was the Bombay Electricity Board which was formed on November 6, 1954 and operated up to March 31, 1957, when it was renamed to Maharashtra State Electricity Board which operated until June 19, 1960.
